Oh, and it's funny you say they "rushed" the release since Diablo was delayed like crazy. No one will say that WoW was awful and unfinished, it was revolutionary for it's time and it was improved over time (no matter what people say with rose colored glasses). It's not even a relevant comparison, that would be like comparing the systems of WoW today to vanilla WoW (no dual spec, current talent trees, raid mechanics, etc). In the time since they have revamped it to make the game less of a grind, but I'd wager that if they hand launched it this way it would have caused a MAJOR outcry among the Diablo faithful.īesides, you can't compare a game that's seen as much active development as Diablo over 3.5 years to a vanilla launch. They couldn't do loot 2.0, the new paragon system or any of the subsequent changes without risking alienating the players who had been waiting AGES for a new game. The thing you need to realize is that Blizzard had to be very conservative initially in how they built the game because of the history of Diablo. It was a polished game that was a ton of fun to play and was easily the best of the genre available at the time. It's easy for you to say that in retrospect but looking at it when it was released it wasn't "rushed" or "unfinished" at all.
